The Game was : A game of three quarters...
We're baaaaack. This was a must win for us having put ourselves in the position of losing the last two challenge rounds games. We had the inside knowledge of how WEGC played thanks to team 2, so were quietly confident (but not overly confident!) that we could win this one and win it we did.
We had played a fantastic game against Team 2 in training on Wednesday night which seemed to give us the lift to our spirits that we needed. and I saw the team back to their best.
We had a great warm up and took to the court knowing that we could win and win well. We owned that first quarter. It took WEGC about 5 minutes (promise no exaggeration) to convert their first goal. Our defence combo of Courtnee, Megan and Katy were absolutely on fire and the opposition feeders had real difficulty in getting the ball to their shooters. We had no such problem and raced out to a 12-2 lead at quarter time.
Then we had a 10 minute nap as we felt a bit sorry for them and let them win the 2nd quarter 5-4. In saying that we still managed 4 intercepts and 4 tips, its just that we got complacent and didn't convert them - we forgot our basics and instead of focussing on the pass we were about to do I think we were trying to get a couple of steps ahead of ourselves. A change in their defensive end also made a positive difference (for them that is!)
Never fear, we only needed 10 minutes to rejuvenate ourselves and we were back to our best for the 3rd quarter - winning that one 9-4, with a total of 10 intercepts and tips.
We did take the foot off the accelerator a bit in the final quarter but still won that quarter by 3 goals.
Good to see the team back - next week will all be about consistency - no napping allowed!
POD went to Emma - great lines, great feeding, great defence, great attack, just great!
Special mention to the defence who were on fire - and to Penny for stepping in as WD extraordinaire to give Megan a well deserved 10 minute break.
Onwards and upwards ladies :)
