The game was: Not the way we wanted to start this round and show others we are the ones to beat.
This is the second time this year where we have come up against teams we have beaten in around 1 and had them turn the tables on us. And for the second time it was down to us not dealing with physicality and a lack of umpire calls going our way.
We started off well enough with endless turnover ball gained in the opening five minutes but then the mistakes that would haunt us all game started to creep in and we ended the first quarter 5-5. We lost Rosie with a thumb sprain but Anna seamlessly switched from GS to GA and continued to dominate and control our shooting circle and showed nice movement with Kate. Our middies had a hard game with very physical opposition but did a good job to find the circle edge and very patiently wait for the feed to open up. Defensively we didn't pick up anywhere near our normal amount of ball through court and struggled to get ahead of the very fast East transition play which made our circle defenders jobs even harder than it was with a holding shooter.
Anna earned MVP this week with high percentage and high volume shooter, her hard work at training and confidence really paid off this week.
It is hard to pinpoint what went wrong particularly, we had trained well during the week and had shown strength in defense so it was disappointing to see that go missing in the game. We have a week off now so will reset and prepare for our next game.
